If the Lord does not grant a request, then it is best not to have it.

Uhm, I understand this and believe it..somewhat but at the same time, how are we to know the Lord hasn't granted the request? So often the request is gotten only after we struggle for the kingdom. The violent take it by force. Sometimes we have to fight the good fight of faith and hope against hope. What would've happened if Abraham had given up on hope, or Hezekiah had not asked God to live, or the Syro-Phenician woman had given up because the Lord had not granted their request?
